TAEF - Texas Alpha Educational Foundation

TAEF Mission

The Texas Alpha Endowment Fund aims to foster lifelong relationships and build a resilient foundation for generations to come by providing educational support and financial resources to enhance the experience at The University of Texas for students, alumni and their families.

  • The Texas Alpha Educational Foundation (TAEF) is a 501(c)3 charity which provides scholarships, contributes to educational and safety elements of the physical housing assets (as managed by TAHB), and provides grants for specific functions of the operation of the chapter house and the living facilities (as managed by ALMG).  TAEF manages annual fundraising campaigns to fund these activities. 
    • Section 501(c)(3) is the portion of the US Internal Revenue Code that allows for federal tax exemption of nonprofit organizations, specifically those that are considered public charities, private foundations or private operating foundations.



BBA 1979. Thirty years as university professor of Information Systems & Business Analytics. Served as house board president in charge of fundraising and construction of 2501 Nueces house. Held undergraduate offices of Historian, Recruitment Chair and President.

Brian Crow '89

Vice-President, Finance & Risk Chair

BSEE 1992. 30 years in semiconductor industry, with 23 years growing Silicon Labs from private startup to today. Current role is Senior Director of Product & Test Engineering. As an undergraduate, served as District V Archon on the Executive Council. Locally, held chapter positions as Treasurer, Finance Chair and Recording Secretary. Currently serving as TAEF Vice Chair and lead for the Finance and Risk Committee.

Ken Sandoval '79


BBA-Accounting 1981. Served as Asst. Treasurer and Treasurer, Dallas Texas Exes-Treasurer and Collin County Texas Exes-President and Treasurer. CPA for over thirty years working in public accounting and industry with the latest position being Director in Financial Reporting.

Justin Smith


BBA 2009 & MPA 2010. 15 years in finance and technology. Current role is Managing Partner
of Recharge Capital and founder of Chaos Ventures. Currently serving as TAEF board member and member for the Finance and Risk Committee.

Tom Pennington


BAAS Business Education 1983; MLS at SMU 2003. Thirty-five years in higher education and nonprofit management, including CEO of the Phi Kappa Psi National Foundation, Senior staff at Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, Coordinator of Greek Affairs at Southern Methodist University, and CEO of the American Leadership Academy. Currently, Tom serves as Executive Director of Triangle Fraternity, a social and professional organization for engineers, architects and scientists.

BBA Finance 1992. Served as Fraternity Education Chair, Recruitment Treasurer, and in The Silver Spurs in the undergraduate chapter. Thirty years in major account sales and business/product development in the paper and packaging industry.

Fundraising Chair

BA Economics '86 Sales Professional with 25 years experience focused on Hardware, Software, Security and Network Technology. Built key business relationships within key decision makers in Sales, Management and the Channel. Within Phi Psi: Pledge Class President, Governing member, Recording Secretary and Favors Chairman.

Mike Streich


B.A., Government, 2008. Served as Rush Captain, VGP, and as a member of The Silver Spurs. Previously a member of the Supervisory Committee. Currently a trial lawyer in Houston representing seriously injured individuals.
